dhyāna

Privacy Policy

dhyāna is built around a simple rule: nothing it reads ever leaves your phone. This page says exactly what it accesses, why, and what happens to it — no legal boilerplate hiding the actual answer.

The short version

In one line

dhyāna has no internet permission. It cannot send anything anywhere, to us or anyone else, even if it wanted to. Everything below happens entirely on your device.

What dhyāna reads, and why

PermissionWhat it's for
PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS (Usage Access) Reads which app is currently in the foreground and how long it's been used today — only for the specific apps you choose to monitor. dhyāna cannot see inside those apps, read their content, or see anything about apps you haven't selected.
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW (Draw over other apps) Used to show the balance-gate screen when you cross a limit, and the small monitoring pill in the last two minutes of budget. Never used to capture, record, or read what's underneath it.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS Required by Android to show the ongoing "dhyāna is running" notification that keeps the background monitoring service alive. No other notifications are sent.

dhyāna does not use Android's Accessibility Service. It cannot read text, screenshots, or content from any app, monitored or not — this was a deliberate architecture decision from the start, not just a policy promise.

What's stored, and where

Your monitored apps, budgets, and settings are stored in standard Android SharedPreferences — local storage private to the app, on your device only. Nothing is uploaded to a server, because dhyāna doesn't have a server, and doesn't have the INTERNET permission needed to talk to one even if it did.

Uninstalling the app deletes this data along with it. There is currently no multi-day usage history retained beyond what Android's own Usage Access system already tracks for its own purposes (which dhyāna only reads, doesn't add to).

Third parties

None. No analytics SDK, no crash reporting, no ad network, no third-party libraries that collect data. Nothing is shared because nothing is collected to share.

Children's privacy

dhyāna is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age — see above: it doesn't collect information from anyone, period.

Changes to this policy

If what the app accesses ever changes, this page will be updated to match before that change ships, with a new "last updated" date above.
